Toddler Morning Ballet Class for beginners

January 22, 2020This date night, unbeknownst to us, had some events happening in our sleepy little town of Tucson.
Our date nights are fairly normal, nothing extravagant, and usually a random series of events at this stage of life while the littles are… little. That is, when we do get a date night which does occur a little more often while Nana is in town, otherwise we don’t get out much.
4PM: CHEESE. And some tastes of wine.
The evening started early since we had an 8pm curfew, which is totally O.K. because – WE GOT OUT OF THE HOUSE! If you’re a parent that doesn’t have many dates, you understand that feeling… “we can do… whatever we want?”
We drove down I-10 googling the normal set of places to go and Missy had came across Sand-Reckoner’s wine tasting and cheese board. Woot! Yes, please.
When we arrived, the Paul Green Jazz trio was setting up to play but they didn’t start until 6pm.
Note: We also missed the entire jazz week (Jan 9-20) that happens each year, we need to check that out if any locals want to double date and show us the ropes in 2021. Yes, that’s an open invite.
This place was a first for us and a cute little place for date night if you need a place to start, or a spot to listen to some local music with a beverage and aged cheeses, if you’re in to that.
By the way, you can buy art from their local ‘Conrad Wilde gallery‘ if you have a spare $2k burning a hole in your pockets. Of course it we had to comment on the artwork and how it made us feel. That’s what people do right? We grabbed a snap of the art for conversation here on the blog (that’s allowed right?) because we just weren’t sure what it was.. comment below if you can tell what these are:
(Our guess on this one was a solar pattern of a 12 year old’s first time shooting an AR-15 haha). These are actually some sort of star constellations or star chart? I couldn’t understand it even from the tag description, I just was scared I’d be charged rent to look at it.
While we are not art connoisseurs by any means and we may be slightly biased, we personally like our kiddo’s dot art better:
If you love it as much as we do (we have a hallway kid’s art gallery) and want a copy, we’re actually selling their art right here on our website.
Did we mention that 100% of the funds from our kid’s artwork goes directly toward their 529 plan for future college tuition. Speaking of, if you need some donations for taxes, we’ll soon have links where you can donate to our kids’ 529 plans on our ABOUT US page.
Anyway, the wine tasting provides 5 samples ($12/person) and cheeseboards ($15) include 2 cheeses, figs, some random but delicious jam spread, and some of those expensive white almonds.
After this, we decided to grab some real dinner, street tacos on Congress!
That brings us to about 5PM: THAI.
We jumped in the car and headed towards Congress where we actually found a parking spot in what was an abnormally slammed night in downtown. I still thank God for parking spots. As we walked toward street tacos we walked by this Thai food restaurant just next to the arcade. We were able to get in for dinner without a reservation. Turns out that this is not only the local fav, Senae Thai is a family-owned boutique restaurant that offers some amazingly delicious, authentic Bangkok cuisine in the perfecting dowtown setting in the heart of downtown Tucson.
If you don’t order any other appetizer, you HAVE to try the extra crispy calamari with their own seasoning of a sweet chili vinaigrette sauce. The thai tea was on point, and we had two of their green curry dishes, one with the indian-fry bread style… bread (?) which was soft with a slight crispy bite to it.
The best part about it was it was right next to the arcade, which was our next stop just before a night cap of latte and dessert at cup cafe at hotel congress. We made it through to level 7 together on Simpson’s arcade which was further than either of us ever made it before (what’s gonna work? TEAMWORK!) and there’s some awesome pinball… though $1 is a little steep per play.
6:30: Tommy guns.
After we killed it at the arcade we took a stroll down congress to cup cafe which is part of hotel congress…. only my FAVORITE place in town.
If you haven’t been, go for the happy hour mon-fri and grab their tacos, or anything on the menu. The owners still dine there themselves and the desserts are made fresh all the time. We haven’t yet been where there’s a repeat special, though they have a couple of their regular dessert treats usually on the menu.
On our way over the scenery stepped into the 1930’s like a reality back to the future. Fedoras, 30-40’s women’s dresses & hats, feathered head pieces, stylish cowboys and everything you can imagine of old school attire filled the area by hotel congress. Turns out there’s a yearly event called “Speakeasy Dillinger days” that is celebrated and this happened to be the 25th anniversary.
If you don’t know about this event, there’s everything from car shows all day to reenactments of shootouts and shenanigans.
- The nightlife OF COURSE has a concert in the back by cup cafe which is PERFECT to grab a bite… we sat inside though which was good since there was a good amount of cigar smoke just outside the patio.
How much? It runs around $30-75 depending what you want:
- $30 front row seats to events throughout the day
- $45 for GAs (what’s a GA?)
- $45 at the door of hotel congress for the evening events, not sure if this is cheaper elsewhere yet… if you know, comment below!
- $75 for the VIP
We wrapped up the night with a latte and a slice of their special that was too big to finish. That was our date night!
If you have some hints on where we should go next, comment and let us know!
