If you have kids you know what a pain diapers can be!
When I had my first baby, I swore that I would try to cloth diaper. I hated the idea of all of those disposable diapers in a land-fill, and wanted to choose an option that would eliminate that waste! So, a friend gifted me her old cloth diapers….. I tried…..and mostly failed. I just couldn’t get the hang of it. Maybe I didn’t have all the correct equipment for cleaning them. Maybe I didn’t have enough patience. Maybe cloth diapering just didn’t “work” for us. So I said I’d try again when he was done breastfeeding. Well, it was more of the same. I used cloth sometimes, mostly when we were home, but when we went out, I just didn’t have the guts! I ultimately switched over to disposables. Uggg.
When it comes to potty training, I am not an expert, by any means. I can, however, share what worked for us! When it came time to potty training, I decided to wait until my kids showed interest. I did, however, put my daughter on the potty every time she had her predictable morning poo when she was only 8 months old in order to save a diaper. Haha. We had a little kid potty that sang when your little one “went”, and also a potty seat that fit onto the regular sized potty. We seriously lived with that little potty in our living room on and off for about a year. My husband HATED it, but I was determined! We would do a celebratory “potty dance” every time they would go! I also, let them learn by watching…..annoying I know. I made a huge deal every time I went to the bathroom and let them follow me into the bathroom (which every kid does anyway). Heaven forbid I poop in peace. Eventually, they showed interest and wanted to do it themselves!
My son started potty training around 16 months! Crazy, I know.
He went naked for about a week and I spent many moments cleaning pee up off the floor. He would pee behind things, and in the pantry. He often peed outside, because it was “fun” to aim and pee in the rocks. If i’m being completely honest, he still does this occasionally at five, haha! Then there was the time he pooped outside “like the dog” as he said……still praying the neighbors didn’t see that one. We were just about potty trained at 18 months (other than outings) and decided to go on a 6 hour road trip to Disneyland. Well, as they say, one step forward, two steps back… We had to pretty much start over when we got home, but we got there when he was around 2yrs old…..and then our youngest was born.
My daughter started to poop on the potty at 8 months. I knew that once she ate, she would make a face and need to go. I would rush her to the potty and plop her on……and presto! She would poop on the potty! I know, I know, my kids are freaks and I’m totally lucky! When we did the naked thing with her, she would have pee pee accidents, slip in her urine, and sit in it until rescued. Fun times. It was a failed attempt over and over until we spent the summer of 2020 in quarantine, and decided to really buckle down and do it! In a few weeks, she was only wearing nighttime pull-ups! It was a success!
Now, to never have to buy diapers again. That was my goal! I mean, who doesn’t want to be done with diapers? This is when I searched online to find something that would work for us. I honestly, didn’t have to look too far, because Super Undies came up in my search so quickly.
Super Undies look and wear like underwear, but they waterproof! They have light padding, to absorb enough so that they won’t leak, but they still allow your child to feel wet, building the brain-body connection they need to help them learn to potty train. Plus, they are so incredibly soft! My kids literally ask to wear them! We have the “Hero Undies” and the “daytime potty training undies”. The “Hero Undies”, aka Nighttime Undies, have an extra liner in them but aren’t too bulky. They fit snuggly, but not so tight that they cut into their thighs. We love them!!
They come in super cute prints and also have many solid colors to choose from. I love that they have thought of every stage of potty training and have a product to help you through it! From potty training pants, to night trainers and bedwetting pants. They even have special needs underwear and protective undies for adults!
My son is now almost 5 and struggles with bedwetting. Once in about every two weeks, he wakes us up having wet the bed. We have bought a bedwetting pad to protect his mattress, but he hated wearing his old “bubble butt diaper’ (as we called it) to bed.
I had bought a reusable night-time diaper when he was around three and he hated it. It made him feel like a baby, and the snaps and bulky insert were not very comfortable. Once he got his Super Undies, he didn’t even question them!
He gladly wears them and we haven’t had to change his sheets once because of a wet bed since. It’s a Christmas miracle!
I’m so glad to not only support a small business, but also a company that gives back. 10% of their gross income goes to charities. Their founder, Laura, is a mom who started this company to fill the needs of her own family. She now has been going strong for over 10 years with her team of super moms. She offers a FREE guide to reduce bedwetting on her website, and if you sign up for their text club you get a 5% off coupon. It’s truly an amazing business to support!
